Outside the lab
Hailing from Red Deer, Alberta in Canada, I fled the ice and snow initially to London, England and then to the balmy climes of San Francisco. When I’m not in the lab, I enjoy taking full advantage of all that San Francisco has to offer. I’m an avid trail runner and hiker and love good food and drink. Much of my spare time is spent chilling with my wife Liz, cooking, grilling, riding my 2015 Honda NC700XD, and working in my garden. We have two silly cats (Roz and Cleo) that featured heavily in my remote lectures in 2020. We also love traveling and experiencing new cultures. Favorite places/experiences include wine tasting in secluded Mendocino County, SCUBA diving in Roatan, crossing the Salar Uyuni (salt flat) in Bolivia, haggling in the souks of Marrakech and staying on an organic coffee farm in Kona. Liz is a fantastic photographer and I’ve included some of her best pics of our adventures below. I’m a big Edmonton Oilers, Edmonton Eskimos, Green Bay Packers, and San Francisco Giants fan. Oh, and the Vancouver Canucks are OK too.
